Iran Calls on IAEA to Maintain Neutrality in Technical Matters

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to adopt a neutral and non-political attitude within the framework of its technical mandate and not succumb to the diversionary tactics of certain Western states.
Speaking at a joint press conference with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Tehran on Thursday, Eslami said Tehran expects the United Nations nuclear watchdog to remain neutral and professional in its approach to Iran's nuclear program. The two sides share an understanding on avoiding language or actions that Iran’s foes could exploit, the Iranian official added.Eslami stated deputy-level meetings between the IAEA and Iran’s nuclear agency will be held in the coming days to discuss outstanding issues and the details of ongoing interaction and cooperation. He stressed that the 2023 joint statement between Iran and the IAEA had led to “good progress”, and that the remaining issues would continue to be addressed within the same framework.
Iran has repeatedly declared that its nuclear program remains purely peaceful as always and that Tehran had no intention of developing nuclear weapons as a matter of an Islamic and state principal.Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that Tehran will not retreat from advancing its peaceful nuclear industry, dismissing any deviation in the country's civilian nuclear program. They reiterated that the United Nations nuclear agency has been fully informed about all nuclear activities and sites inside the country.Tehran has repeatedly underlined that it has made every endeavour to enable the IAEA to effectively carry out its verification activities in Iran, including safeguards and monitoring measures that are unique to the IAEA's verification regime. But, Iran underscored it was not and is not obliged to respond the nuclear agency's requests and questions which based on unreliable information and fake documents. The meeting comes ahead of a fresh round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States. The second round of Tehran-Washington negotiations is scheduled to take place in the Italian capital, Rome, on Saturday. Both sides have described the first round of discussions as positive and constructive.
Grossi, for his part, said the IAEA is in contact with both Iranian and US officials to help facilitate progress in their negotiations. The head of the UN nuclear watchdog stated he is in touch with the American negotiator to explore how the IAEA can play a positive and constructive role. “We want to be a bridge between Iran and the United States and help reach a positive outcome,” he added.Grossi described his meetings in Tehran as “deep and honest”, adding that the agency is committed to verifying any future agreement to ensure its credibility. He noted the negotiations are at a critical stage, expressing optimism that a final deal is achievable if both sides show the necessary will.
