Hackers Announce Cyberattack on California Water Systems over US Actions Against Iran

The hacker group “Handala” announced it has carried out a cyberattack targeting water infrastructure facilities in the US state of California, saying the operation was executed in response to recent American actions against Iran.
In a statement, the group said it had hacked California’s water facilities as retaliation for “US attacks on Iranian civilians and water infrastructure.”According to the statement, following US strikes on the Southern Iranian regions of Minab and Sirik, which damaged local water resources, members of the cyber group launched an operation against American water infrastructure systems.Hanzala further added that despite gaining access to relevant systems, it deliberately refrained from disrupting water supplies to US cities, describing the operation as merely a “warning” to Washington.Referring to the Stuxnet cyberattack, the group warned that any action against Iran would be met with reciprocal responses targeting critical infrastructure. The group also announced that it had published 5 gigabytes of data related to the operation on its website as proof of concept (PoC).
