Iran’s “Ghamishloo – DalanKuh” Inscribed as UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Marking Its 14th Designation

The UNESCO registration of “Ghamishloo–DalanKuh” in Iran’s Isfahan province has placed Iran’s name on the world list of valuable sites with its 14th biosphere reserve.
The “Ghamishloo–DalanKuh” area in Isfahan province was officially designated as a biosphere reserve during the 38th session of UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, held in Paraguay.Covering approximately 830,000 hectares, this reserve spans parts of several counties in Isfahan province and includes a collection of protected areas, no-hunting zones, and valuable natural habitats. With the inscription of Ghamishloo–DalanKuh, the number of biosphere reserves in Iran has risen to 14.Ghamishloo is considered one of Iran’s oldest protected areas, holding a special place in the country’s conservation system due to its significant wildlife populations, including wild sheep and mouflon, ibex and wild goat, wolf, hyena, and various bird species. Alongside it, DalanKuh—with its natural landscapes, diverse vegetation, and crucial role in providing regional ecosystem services—is regarded as one of Isfahan province’s natural assets.UNESCO biosphere reserves are among the key instruments for balancing nature conservation with the development of human societies.
