Iran Foreign Ministry Spox: No Trust in US Diplomacy After Two Attacks During Nuclear Talks
The spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has no confidence in US diplomacy, including for negotiation.
Esmail Baqaei, in an interview with South Africa’s Newzroom Afrika network, said: “In the past nine months, the United States and the Zionist regime have attacked Iran twice – in June and February – in the midst of diplomatic negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue. This is an aggressive act, an illegal war imposed on Iran. So who can truly have confidence in US diplomacy? They have destroyed the negotiating table twice in nine months.”Baqaei noted: “We will not tolerate this vicious cycle of war, negotiations, ceasefire, and then repetition of the same pattern. This is catastrophic not only for Iran but for the entire region and beyond.”Stating that Iran is determined and resolute to continue defending against this aggression, he said: “This is our land. This is an unjust war imposed on Iranians, and we have no choice but to confront it.”According to Baqaei: “We are defending against an illegal war. So as long as this illegal war continues, as long as they attack our people and our cities, we are forced to continue our confrontation.”Responding to a question about Iran’s attacks on US bases in other countries, Baqaei noted: “We do not attack any country. We are literally defending ourselves against aggressors. As to why we target military bases scattered around Iran, again it is because of our inherent right under international law.”
He said: “Based on a UN General Assembly resolution – Resolution 3314 of 1974 – any country that assists or supports aggressors is itself considered an aggressor.”The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated: “We do not consider our friendly countries in the Persian Gulf region as enemies. We have said many times that we are determined to continue our good neighborly relations with all of them. The problem is that the United States and Israel misuse their territories to carry out their military aggression against Iran.”Baqaei added: “They use their military bases in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other Persian Gulf countries. So in a way, the United States has dragged the regional countries into its own desired war.”Baqaei emphasized: “We have shown all these countries with the necessary evidence that US aircraft, fighter jets, and other military logistics have used their airspace and territory to carry out military aggression against Iran.”Referring to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baqaei added: “We must ensure that the aggressors, their ships and vessels, do not misuse this waterway to carry out military aggression against Iran. This is based on international law.”He said: “Those ships and vessels that do not belong to the aggressors, are not affiliated with them, or do not support their offensive operations against Iran will be allowed to transit through the Strait of Hormuz after necessary coordination with Iranian authorities.”
Baqaei clarified: “As far as the Iranian nation is concerned, we are completely determined and resolute to continue our defense against this aggression. This is our land. This is an unjust war imposed on Iranians. Therefore, we have no choice but to confront it decisively.”
