Iran Stresses Mutual Economic Gains in Talks with US to Ensure Durable Deal

Iran’s deputy foreign minister said that during negotiations between Tehran and Washington, shared interests in the fields of oil, gas, mining, and even aircraft purchases have been discussed, with the Iranian side underscoring the need for tangible US economic benefits to ensure the sustainability of any agreement.
Hamid Ghanbari, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, made the remarks at a meeting at the Iran Chamber of Commerce.Referring to the experience of the previous agreement—under which the United States did not reap economic benefits—he stressed that for a deal to endure this time, it is essential that the US also gain from high-yield and fast-return economic sectors.Ghanbari explained that proposed areas of cooperation should generate minimal domestic sensitivity, citing energy, oil and gas fields, quick-return mining investments, urban development projects, and aircraft purchases as examples. He also addressed the issue of limited or frozen financial resources, noting that these funds would form part of any agreement and that their release must be genuine and practically usable, rather than merely symbolic or temporary. He added that such a release could take place either gradually or in a single step.Ghanbari emphasized that the negotiations are being pursued seriously with the aim of reaching an agreement, but stressed that no domestic institution or agency should suspend its routine activities under the pretext of ongoing talks.“The country must be prepared for all scenarios,” he said, “while at the same time seriously pursuing the negotiations.”
