Iran Launches First Dedicated Geostationary Satellite “Jam-e Jam 1”

Iran’s first dedicated geostationary satellite, “Jam-e Jam 1” — internationally registered as “Iran DBS” — belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), was successfully launched into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The telecommunications satellite was placed into orbit by a Proton-M launch vehicle, alongside a Russian meteorological satellite. The launch marks a strategic step in strengthening IRIB’s technical infrastructure and advancing Iran’s space-based broadcasting capabilities.“Jam-e Jam 1” represents the first technical and operational phase in implementing next-generation interactive radio and television broadcasting technology. The satellite has been designed to transmit interactive audio and video signals to ground-based broadcasting stations, laying the groundwork for interactive public broadcasting services.According to the planned schedule, the satellite will be transferred and stabilized at its final orbital position at 34 degrees East within less than three weeks.Reception of the satellite’s signals will require professional and specialized equipment and will not be accessible through ordinary household receivers. The project ensures the necessary communications framework for consolidating interactive broadcasting technology for IRIB and marks a new chapter in the organization’s technical independence in space-based infrastructure.
