Iran Navy Commissions New ‘Kurdistan’ Floating Base, Unveils Rebuilt ‘Sahand’ Destroyer

Under a directive from the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, the Iranian floating base Kurdistan has officially joined the Navy, while the fully reconstructed Sahand destroyer was unveiled simultaneously.
In a ceremony attended by Major General Amir Hatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, and Rear Admiral Irani, Commander of the Navy, the floating base Kurdistan was incorporated into the naval fleet. The event also featured the unveiling of the Sahand destroyer, along with new missile-equipped fast attack craft, multi-purpose unmanned aerial units, intelligent unmanned underwater vehicles, and advanced electronic warfare, missile, and intelligence systems for both coastal and naval deployment.The ceremony was attended by several senior officials, and three families of Navy martyrs were honored during the event.The addition of these assets aims to enhance Iran’s naval combat capability, showcase technological advancements, expand weapons development aligned with emerging threats, stimulate innovation in military design, and deepen Iran’s strategic reach with broader access to international waters. The upgrades will significantly strengthen the Navy’s operational capacity and long-range maritime presence.The Sahand destroyer sank unexpectedly at its berth in Bandar Abbas on July 6, 2024. Through 14 days of continuous technical and rescue operations, the Iranian Navy successfully refloated the ship.The floating base Kurdistan functions as a port-like mobile installation, capable of providing critical logistical support to naval combat units operating at sea.
