Iran Warns of Major Policy Shift if IAEA Board Adopts Anti-Tehran Resolution

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs said that if the IAEA Board of Governors adopts a resolution against Iran at its meeting this week, the Islamic Republic will undertake a fundamental review of its engagement with the Agency and issues related to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Kazem Qaribabadi, responding to a question from Fars News about the draft resolution submitted to this week’s meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, said that the three European countries—Britain, Germany, and France— excluded themselves from dialogue and diplomacy with Iran through their unlawful “snapback” action at the UN Security Council. He noted that they, along with the US failed there as well, as most of the international community did not support their move.According to Qaribabadi, nothing unusual has occurred in Vienna. Iran’s nuclear facilities were attacked, and these very countries remained silent or even supported the attacks. Despite this, Iran demonstrated goodwill and continued its cooperation with the Agency regarding facilities that were not targeted.Qaribabadi asked what additional pressure these countries are seeking to impose on Iran and what their objective is. Instead of being held accountable for the attacks and their silence, he said, they are attempting to exert yet another form of pressure on Iran after their failure in New York.He added that they are pursuing another pressure tactic against Iran, even though Tehran has acted in good faith in its dealings with the Agency.
Qaribabadi stressed that the only message such an action sends is that these countries disregard Iran’s goodwill and its cooperation with international bodies, including the IAEA, and that they have no intention of being held accountable for acts of aggression against Iran.He pointed out that if they attach no importance to dialogue and cooperation, Iran will fundamentally revise its approaches—revisions that will not be limited solely to its cooperation with the IAEA.
