Iran Rejects Arab League’s Claims over Persian Gulf Islands

The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, dismissed the claims made in the Arab League’s final statement regarding the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and advised the League to base its positions on unchangeable historical and geographical facts rather than unfounded allegations.
On Monday, Baqaei categorically rejected the claims made in the final statement of the Arab League Summit in Baghdad regarding the three Iranian islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa.Baqaei emphasized that the three islands are an inseparable part of Iranian territory, and the Islamic Republic considers any claims to the contrary as contrary to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, which emphasize respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of states, as well as the principle of good neighborliness. He added that raising such an issue in the Arab League’s final statement is unacceptable. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson recommended that the Arab League work to strengthen understanding and relations among regional countries instead.
