Discovery of Lithium in Iran, in Collaboration with Russia

Iran and Russia have initiated their collaboration to explore lithium resources in Iran, and for the first time, quantities of this metal have been discovered in the brine pools of three provinces in Iran.
For the first time, the exploration of lithium resources in Iran has begun, and the brine pools of Qom, Isfahan, and Semnan provinces are being investigated in search of lithium. A report obtained by the Fars News Agency indicates that Moscow is cooperating with Tehran in lithium exploration, and Russian experts, along with the country’s advanced laboratories, are at Iran’s disposal. Previously, the Israeli newspaper Maariv wrote in a report that “the discovery of lithium in Iran will shift the balance of power.” Preliminary reports suggest that lithium deposits have been found in the targeted provinces, with concentrations of up to 80 ppm confirmed. However, the economic viability of lithium extraction requires a concentration exceeding 100 ppm. Lithium is the lightest metal in the world, and its use in electric batteries ties the future of global energy to lithium.
