Iranian Spokesperson: 2 French Embassy Employees Barred from Returning to Tehran

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei told reporters on Monday two French embassy employees involved in a diplomatic dispute last month would not be allowed to return to Tehran.
Baqaei noted that the two had violated the Vienna Convention, which defines the rules and privileges of diplomatic missions, engaging in activities supporting Iranian civil society.
In a statement on Saturday, the foreign ministry announced that Tehran had discovered the presence of two French diplomats at a secret meeting while carrying out a judicial order to arrest two suspects in a major case involving foreign infiltration and interference. The ministry warned France against interfering in the country’s internal affairs, saying Paris must answer for the illegal activities of its diplomats.
“Insisting that these individuals were engaged in activities related to supporting civil society is ‌itself an admission that the Vienna Convention was violated,” Baqaei told the weekly news conference, without elaborating.
