FM Calls on Kuwait to Release Iranian Nationals

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi accused Kuwait on Wednesday of unlawfully attacking an Iranian boat and detaining four individuals in the Persian Gulf, urging their immediate release.
Writing on X on Wednesday, Araqchi said that Kuwait’s attack on the small Iranian boat and the arrest of the Iranian citizens on board it were illegal. He added the move was also meant to sow discord in a region already on edge because of the US-Israeli onslaught on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks on US military assets in regional countries, including Kuwait.
On Tuesday, Kuwaiti state media reported that authorities captured four individuals described as members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who were trying to infiltrate the country to “carry out hostile acts".The Iranians tried to enter Kuwait on May 1 aboard a fishing boat and clashed with Kuwaiti soldiers, Kuwaiti state media said.Iran denied the claim as baseless, stressing the four were “carrying out routine maritime patrol duties” for the Iranian coast guard and entered Kuwaiti waters only because of a “disruption in the navigation system".
The foreign minister stated that Kuwait carried out the attack near an island in the Persian Gulf where the US has stationed its military personnel and equipment to launch attacks on Iran.“In a clear attempt to sow discord, Kuwait has unlawfully attacked an Iranian boat and detained 4 of our citizens in the Persian Gulf. This illegal act took place near an island used by the U.S. to attack Iran,” the ranking diplomat stressed.Araqchi emphasized that Iran reserves the right to respond to Kuwait’s attack on the Iranian boat as he demanded the immediate release of the four Iranian nationals captured during the incident.
