Iran Mocks US' "Project Freedom" as "Project Deadlock"
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi stressed that recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz have once again proved that there is no military solution to the political crisis in West Asia.
Writing on X on Monday, Araqchi sharply dismissed Washington’s much-publicized “Project Freedom” — a naval initiative aimed at exerting military pressure in the Strait of Hormuz — calling it “Project Deadlock".
The comments came after US President Donald Trump announced he had ordered the US military to begin an operation to break Tehran’s control over the Strait and allow commercial ships to pass through after more than two months of being stranded in regional waters because of the US-Israeli onslaught against Iran. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has warned against any bid by US military or commercial vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Iranian authorities.Iran has controlled the Strait since the early days of the US-Israeli aggression that began in late February, allowing only ships that are deemed not hostile and that observe security protocols announced by the Iranian military to transit the waterway. The control has left nearly 3,000 ships and some 20,000 sailors stranded on both sides of the Strait, while causing a major surge in international oil prices.
The foreign minister highlighted steady progress in indirect talks between Iran and the United States, crediting Pakistan’s sincere and constructive mediation efforts.“As talks are making progress thanks to Pakistan’s gracious attempts, the US should be wary of being dragged back into a quagmire by ill-wishers. So should the UAE,” the ranking Iranian diplomat stressed.
