Iran: US Military Attack on Venezuela Violation of UN Charter

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the United States military attack on Venezuela and the flagrant violation of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the South American country.
The foreign ministry issued a statement released on Saturday, denouncing the US raids against Venezuela as a clear breach of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and basic rules of international law, particularly Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the Charter, which prohibits the use of force. The statement called the US strikes an obvious example of an “act of aggression” that must be explicitly condemned immediately by the UN and by all states concerned with upholding the rule of law, peace, and international security and stability. The US assault against an independent UN member state represents a flagrant violation of regional and international peace, it added, warning that the consequences of the action would affect the entire international system and further expose the UN Charter-based order to erosion and destruction.
The US on Saturday carried out aerial raids inside Venezuela against the country and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Maduro and his wife had been “captured and flown out of the country” following the military operation, which he stated was conducted “in conjunction with US law enforcement”.Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said the government is unaware of the whereabouts of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, adding the US attack has cost the lives of officials, military personnel and civilians across the country.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also recalled Venezuela’s inherent right to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and right to self-determination.It stressed the legal and moral responsibility of all states and international organizations, especially the UN and its Security Council, to immediately halt the unlawful US onslaught against Venezuela. The ministry also emphasized the necessity of measures to hold accountable those responsible for the crimes committed during this military intervention.
