President Pezeshkian: Iran-US Negotiations Could Lead to Fair Deal
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he hopes that the ongoing indirect talks between Tehran and Washington will lead to a fair agreement which will guarantee sustainable stability and security in West Asia.
During a meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on the sidelines of The Tehran Dialogue Forum on Sunday, Pezeshkian praised the benevolent, committed, and constructive role of the Omani government in hosting indirect talks between Iran and the United States.“We hope that through the sincere and dedicated efforts of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, these talks will result in a fair agreement that ensures lasting peace and stability in the region,” Pezeshkian stated.He said that Iran is ready to expand cooperation with Islamic countries, especially the “brotherly and friendly country of Oman”, in all fields including trade, science and technology. Pezeshkian added that his upcoming trip to Oman will serve as a turning point in deepening relations between the two sides. The president emphasized the need for more convergence among Islamic countries, noting that the more these countries are close to each other and enhance their collaboration, the more ill-wishers of the Islamic world will get disappointed with creating division and disputes among Islamic nations. He expressed hope that the regional countries, through interaction and enhancing synergy, can build a region where people live in prosperity and justice.
Iran and the US have already held four rounds of indirect talks, mediated by Oman, aimed at sealing an accord over Tehran's nuclear program. Though Tehran and Washington have both stressed they prefer diplomacy to resolve the decades-long nuclear dispute, they remain deeply divided on several red lines that negotiators will have to circumvent to reach a new accord.
Oman’s foreign minister, for his part, conveyed to Pezeshkian warm greetings from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. Referring to Pezeshkian’s speech at the Tehran Dialogue Forum, the Omani diplomat praised the Iranian president's valuable and wise remarks about Iran, neighboring countries, the Islamic world as well as constructive interaction with the global community, emphasizing that Oman completely supports this stance. He also added that the excellent ties between Iran and Oman are a clear example of relations based on sincerity, cooperation and brotherhood, expressing hope that these ties serve as an inspiring model for other countries.
