IRGC Announces Martyrdom of Ranking Military Advisor in Syria
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the martyrdom of a senior military advisor in an attack by Takfiri terrorists in Syria.
The IRGC said in a statement on Thursday that Second Brigadier General Kioumars Pourhashemi, aka Hajj Hashem, has been martyred in Syria in a terrorist attack by Takfiri militants.The statement added that the defender of the holy shrine was martyred in the Aleppo countryside.The term "holy shrine defender" refers to advisers and military personnel who fight on behalf of Iran to defend and protect Shia sites and peoples in Iraq and Syria from terror groups such as Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), and in support of the Syrian government.The IRGC statement highlighted the increasing attacks by Takfiri terrorists under the guidance of the Zionist regime, who, following their strategic defeats in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, have intensified raids on Syria."These actions, aimed at compensating for their failures against the Islamic resistance, have been met with resolute responses from the Syrian Army and allied forces," the statement read.
A coalition of foreign-backed terror groups and anti-Damascus militants have conducted a major assault on the Syrian military positions in the Northwestern province of Aleppo, with the Arab country’s Armed Forces engaging in a deadly confrontation to thwart the large-scale aggression.Local media reported that members of the Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) terrorist outfit and their allied armed factions overran several areas under the control of the Syrian military in the West of Aleppo city and the Eastern countryside of Idlib on Wednesday.
Since 2011, Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy, as a result of which Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) and other terror groups emerged in the country.Iran maintains an advisory mission in the war-ravaged country at the request of Damascus, helping it in the face of foreign-backed terrorism.The United States and Israel have been key supporters of terrorist groups during the war in the Middle Eastern country and have frequently targeted military positions inside Syria.Several members of the IRGC have so far been martyred in the battle against terrorists in Syria as well as air attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime.
