IRGC Navy: 26 Ships Transited Strait of Hormuz Under Iran's Protection
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday 26 commercial ships and tankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours after obtaining Tehran's permission.
The IRGC Navy continues to exercise full control over the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the safe and orderly passage of commercial shipping in the face of repeated threats from trans-regional powers.According to a statement released by the IRGC Navy's Public Relations Department on Thursday, 26 ships, including oil tankers, container ships and other commercial vessels, successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz during the past 24 hours after obtaining permission and receiving comprehensive security coordination and protection from Tehran.
The passage of dozens of ships in recent days marks a major increase compared to transit rates in the vital waterway since the beginning of US-Israeli assault against Itan in late February, which prompted Iranian military to take control of the waterway and impose restrictions on shipping through it. The restrictions have caused a major surge in international energy and commodity prices, as the Strait is responsible for a fifth of global oil demand.
"Several vessels that tried to enter without authorization — with navigation systems disabled — were stopped or turned back," the statement read. The IRGC called on foreign ships and tankers to obtainine permission for traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning, "as previously announced, passing through other routes will be identified as a disruption and dealt with accordingly."
