Vessel Hit by Projectile Off Coast of Qatar

A bulk carrier in the Persian Gulf was attacked by an unknown projectile on Sunday morning local time amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz in the wake of the US-Israeli war against Iran.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO) reported the bulk carrier caught fire on Sunday after being struck by an unknown projectile.The UKMTO added that a small fire on board the vessel was subsequently extinguished, and there were no casualties in the incident.
Iran has placed restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes, since the US-Israeli war began in late February.The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned the United States and its allies that any attack on Iranian tankers or commercial vessels will be met with a crushing and decisive response.
The incident occurred 23 nautical miles Northeast of Qatar’s capital, Doha.UKMTO, the maritime authority with responsibility for the region, announced that no casualties or environmental impact were reported.This fire marks the latest in a series of incidents on vessels in the Persian Gulf.
