FM Lashes Out at US for Disregarding Iran’s 'Good Faith' in Pakistan Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi stated the renewed threats and excessive demands from the American side during the negotiations in Islamabad spoiled the chance of reaching a possible agreement.
"In intensive talks at the highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with US in good faith to end the war," Araqchi wrote on X on Monday."But when just inches away from Islamabad MoU, we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade," he explained the reasons the negotiations between Washington and Tehran ended without a breakthrough.
Iran and the US have failed to reach a deal after high-stakes talks in the Pakistani capital, with Vice President JD Vance noting that Tehran refused to accept Washington’s terms after 21 hours of discussions in Islamabad.Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei stressed on Sunday that no one had expected the talks with the US to reach an agreement in a single session. On Saturday, an informed source told FNA that the US has raised several excessive demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program, during the trilateral negotiations. The US and Israel waged a war on Iran on February 28 that expanded to the wider West Asia, with Tehran carrying out retaliatory military operations against the occupied territories and US military bases and assets in neighbouring Persian Gulf countries. The negotiations come after the US and Iran agreed on Wednesday to a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire following Washington’s acceptance of a 10-point proposal from Tehran.Iran has stressed that sending a delegation to Pakistan shows Tehran’s resolve to negotiate with Washington, though the country's Armed Forces' “fingers would remain on the trigger”.
"Zero lessons learned," Araqchi rebuked the American negotiators, arguing that "Good will begets good will. Enmity begets enmity".
