Poll: 68 Percent of Americans Say Trump Focused on Wrong Problems

Almost seven in 10 Americans say that President Donald Trump is focusing on the wrong problems in the US, according to a new poll released ahead of his State of the Union address on Tuesday.
In the CNN poll, published Monday, 68 percent of respondents said that the president “hasn’t paid enough attention to the country’s most important problems”. Thirty-two percent, by comparison, said that Trump “has had the right priorities”.The results come as Trump and the GOP are facing challenges over concerns about affordability, controversy surrounding files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, two deaths at the hands of federal immigration authorities in Minnesota and recent Democratic election victories. Some Senate Republicans have recently warned that the GOP was not addressing affordability as much as it should, with the 2026 midterms rapidly approaching. Last week, Trump waved off worries about the economy in a speech. The president asserted that he “won” the fight versus inflation and public concern over costs.“I have to listen to the fake news talk about ‘affordability, affordability,’” Trump said at a steel fabricator in Rome, Ga.“Do you notice, what word have you not heard over the last two weeks? Affordability. Because, I’ve won. I’ve won affordability,” he continued. “I had to go out and talk about it, but we inherited a mess,” he said. The CNN poll took place between February 17 and 20, featuring 2,496 people and a margin of sampling error of 2.5 percentage points. In a polling average from Decision Desk HQ, Trump’s approval rating is sitting at 41.7 percent, while his disapproval rating is at 56.3 percent.
