Iran to Establish New Enrichment Site in Response to IAEA Resolution

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and the country's Foreign Ministry condemned a newly adopted resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors against Tehran, and further announced plans to launch a third high-security uranium enrichment facility.
The AEOI and the foreign ministry issued a joint statement on Thursday after the 35-nation Board of Governors passed an anti-Tehran, condemning the hostile action as "politically motivated and technically baseless" and announcing plans to establish a new uranium enrichment facility in response. The statement slammed the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany for politicizing the United Nations nuclear agency and misusing its platform without legal or technical justification."Iran has always complied with its safeguards obligations," the statement said, adding that IAEA reports have never indicated any deviation or non-compliance in Iran’s nuclear activities. The statement criticized the latest report from the IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi as “political and biased".Despite this, the statement added that the four Western countries went beyond that by drafting a resolution that even contradicts the political report of the IAEA head.Unable to identify issues in current Iranian activities, the statement stressed, the countries resorted to raising allegations from over 25 years ago. However, Iran noted that all such past issues were closed under the IAEA’s November 2015 resolution.
The statement condemned the silence of these countries regarding Israel’s nuclear arsenal and its refusal to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).Furthermore, the statement slammed Washington, London and Paris for failing to fulfill their nuclear disarmament obligations under Article VI of the NPT and lashed out at Berlin for hosting deadly and inhumane nuclear arms.“These actions by the four countries have seriously undermined the credibility and integrity of the IAEA and further revealed the agency’s political character,” the statement read.Tehran warned that this political treatment of a country that has consistently fulfilled its commitments and cooperated extensively with the nuclear watchdog proves that dialogue yields the opposite effect.“We thank the countries that voted against or abstained,” the statement added, while denouncing those that supported the resolution. As previously announced, the Islamic Republic of Iran sees no option but to respond to this political resolution, it said.
Accordingly, Head of the AEOI Mohammad Eslami has issued orders to establish a new enrichment center in a secure location.Advanced IR-6 centrifuges will replace the older first-generation centrifuges at the Shahid Dr. Alimohammadi (Fordow) site, the statement read.Further measures are being planned and will be announced in due course, according to the atomic agency and the foreign ministry.
Earlier, the 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution claiming that Iran isn’t complying with its nuclear obligations for the first time in 20 years—a move that could lead to further tensions and set in motion an endeavor to restore UN sanctions on Tehran later this year.Nineteen countries on the IAEA’s Board of Governors, which represents the nuclear agency’s member nations, voted for the resolution. Russia, China and Burkina Faso opposed it, 11 abstained and two did not vote. The resolution was put forward by France, the UK, Germany and the US.Iran has repeatedly declared that its nuclear program remains purely peaceful as always and that Tehran had no intention of developing nuclear weapons as a matter of an Islamic and state principal. The meeting came after the IAEA claimed in a confidential report to member states that Iran has failed to report its nuclear activities at three undeclared locations and raised concerns about Tehran’s stockpile of uranium enriched up to 60% purity.Highlighting the close interaction between Tehran and the IAEA, Iranian officials stated that most of the UN atomic agency’s inspections are carried out in the country.
Iranian officials have repeatedly ruled out any deviation in the country’s peaceful nuclear activities, emphasizing that Tehran has had no undeclared nuclear materials or activities, nor does it possess any at present.Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that Tehran will not retreat from advancing its peaceful nuclear industry, dismissing any deviation in the country's civilian nuclear program. They reiterated that the UN nuclear agency has been fully informed about all nuclear activities and sites inside the country.Tehran has repeatedly underlined that it has made every endeavour to enable the IAEA to effectively carry out its verification activities in Iran, including safeguards and monitoring measures that are unique to the IAEA's verification regime. But, Iran underscored it was not and is not obliged to respond the nuclear agency's requests and questions which based on unreliable information and fake documents.
