Iran MPs Reuke Trump's Persian Gulf Comments, Urge Him to Study History
Iranian lawmakers strongly condemned the US president comments on renaming the Persian Gulf, advising him to study history more carefully.
The Iranian MPs on Sunday issued a statement, reaffirming the country’s historical and geopolitical rights over "the Persian Gulf". “The Persian Gulf is our homeland,” they stressed, signifying the importance of the water body for Iranians. Ahmad Naderi, a member of the parliamentary presiding board read the statement, emphasizing Iran’s unwavering stance on the water body.
Trump has recently stated he will make a decision on how Washington refers to the “Persian Gulf” during an upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the name of the strategic body of water is “a historical, permanent, documented and undeniable fact". They stress that the Persian Gulf has been under the same name in ancient documents, maps, travelogues and texts for thousands of years and will remain under the same name forever". Tehran emphasizes that repeating the fake name does not change facts and brings no legitimacy to it, warning of "wrath of all Iranians" if Washington renames the Persian Gulf.
“Mr. Trump, the Persian Gulf and its geopolitics are God-given,” the lawmakers' statement read. “It was not acquired through invasion or exploitation,” the parliamentarians added, emphasizing that the name of "the Persian Gulf" is a historical fact.
