The ceremony came after the February 28 US-Israeli strike on Iran in which Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred, an attack that triggered an imposed war and was followed by Iranian retaliatory missile and drone operations against US military bases in the region and Israeli military targets in the occupied territories.The farewell marks the opening stage of a multi-day funeral program that will continue with processions in Tehran, Qom, Najaf and Karbala before concluding with the burial in Mashhad.
