Khorramshahr-4: Iran’s 2,000 km Answer to Regional Threats
Khorramshahr-4, also referred to as the Kheibar missile, is Iran’s largest operational rocket, combining long range, heavy payload capacity and advanced mid-course guidance to deliver strategic and tactical effect. [VIDEO]
The missile has an operational range of about 2,000 km, measures roughly 13 metres in length with a diameter of 1.5 metres, and weighs around 30 tonnes. Its warhead is approximately 1,800 kg — and the warhead section itself is nearly 4 metres long. Khorramshahr-4 uses a high-performance “Arvand” engine fed by hypergolic propellants, yielding very high specific impulse (reported burn figures of about 280 seconds at sea level and 300 seconds in vacuum).A distinctive feature of Khorramshahr-4 is its mid-course guidance and control capability: guidance and corrective propulsion operate outside the atmosphere during mid-flight, allowing the flight path to be adjusted prior to re-entry.This architecture reduces the reliance on active guidance during atmospheric terminal descent and is intended to complicate enemy electronic-warfare countermeasures and interception attempts. High re-entry speeds — reported up to Mach 8 inside the atmosphere and higher in exo-atmospheric phases — contribute to a short engagement window for air-defence systems.
