Official: Iran’s Newly Discovered Takhte Gas Field Could Meet Nation’s Gas Demand for 15 Years
An Iranian oil industry official has announced that the newly discovered Takhte gas field in Fars Province, Southern Iran, could independently meet the country’s gas consumption needs for 15 years.
Seyed Mohieddin Jafari, head of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), told the Fars News Agency that the field, which stretches 50 kilometers in length and 40 kilometers in width, holds proven reserves of 7.7 trillion cubic feet of gas. Its recoverable sweet gas reserves amount to 5.6 trillion cubic feet, which can be extracted through the drilling of 15 wells.He said that in addition to sweet gas, the field will produce approximately 27 million barrels of associated gas condensate, which can be used by petrochemical plants, as refinery feedstock for gasoline production, and for export.According to Jafari, if Iran produces 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day, the country’s gas consumption needs could be met for 15 years through these 15 wells.He added that the drilling process to reach the hydrocarbons in the field was highly complex and took approximately 18 months.
