Former IRGC Commander Mohsen Rezaei Appointed Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary
Former Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Mohsen Rezaei has been appointed as Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, head of the Iranian Government’s Information Council, wrote on X: “Following Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr’s resignation as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and his assumption of a new responsibility, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed Mohsen Rezaei as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.”Previously, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, appointed Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council.Mohsen Rezaei holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Tehran. During the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, he served as Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps. He has also served as Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council.Rezaei’s appointment as Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council follows Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr’s resignation from the post. Zolqadr was subsequently appointed as the Supreme Leader’s political adviser by order of the Supreme Leader.
