Iran Defeats Bosnia to Claim Record Ninth Sitting Volleyball World Title
On the final day of the 14th Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Hangzhou, China, Iran's men's national sitting volleyball team faced Bosnia in Friday's final and defeated them to win a record ninth world title.
Iran won the first, second, and fourth sets 25–21, 25–20, and 25–16, respectively. Bosnia claimed the third set 25–20, but Iran secured a 3–1 victory to lift the world championship trophy for the ninth time.Prior to this triumph, Iran's record at the World Championships included eight gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals.In addition to winning the world title, Iran also secured qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.At the conclusion of the tournament, Davoud Alipourian, captain of Iran's national sitting volleyball team, was named Asia's Best Player of the Past 30 Years, while Iranian international referee Ebrahim Firouzi received the award for Asia's Best Referee.With nine gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals, Iran is the most successful team in the history of the Sitting Volleyball World Championships. Bosnia ranks second with three gold, four silver, and one bronze medal.Iran has also won eight Paralympic gold medals in men's sitting volleyball, further cementing its status as the sport's most dominant nation.
