Iran Holds US Responsible for Escalation, Vows Response to Aggression

Iran's Foreign Ministry said the United States bears full responsibility for the consequences of the latest escalation, saying Washington has repeatedly violated the Memorandum of Understanding on the Termination of the War and warning that Iran's Armed Forces will respond to the US military aggression in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The Ministry said Iran's Armed Forces, as they have repeatedly demonstrated, will not hesitate to defend the country's territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and national security against US military aggression and will target the source and point of origin of any such attacks. It also called on the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to fulfill their responsibilities for maintaining regional and international peace and security. The Ministry further reminded all states, particularly those along the Southern coast of the Persian Gulf, of their legal obligation to prevent their territory and facilities from being used for attacks against Iran, warning that any such cooperation would constitute complicity in the crime of aggression.According to the statement, the terrorist US military attacked several Iranian monitoring and surveillance facilities along the country's Southern coast in the early hours of Wednesday, July 8, in violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and Clause 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding, which requires the cessation of all military operations. The Ministry added that the latest attack, the US decision to revoke Iran's oil export authorization despite its commitments under Clause 10 of the Memorandum, the violation of the agreed arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and the continued Israeli military operations against Lebanon have rendered key provisions of the Memorandum ineffective.
