Iran: No IAEA Chief Meeting or Inspection Plan for Damaged Nuclear Sites
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Iranian negotiating team in Switzerland neither held a meeting with the IAEA Director General nor has any plan for the agency to inspect Iran's nuclear facilities damaged by US and Israeli military aggression.
Esmail Baqaei made the remarks on Tuesday during his weekly press briefing, responding to a question about the Iran-US meeting in Switzerland and US officials' claims that Iran had agreed to IAEA inspectors visiting its damaged facilities. "We had no meeting with the Director General, nor do we have any plan for IAEA inspections of Iran's damaged nuclear sites. No protocol exists in this regard," he stated. The US Vice President and Treasury Secretary claimed on Monday that Iran had agreed to allow IAEA inspectors access to sites damaged by US and Israeli strikes.Baqaei added: "As a member of the NPT and a country committed to Safeguards Agreements, we will continue with the current procedure, which I believe is quite clear."He noted that the nuclear issue, alongside sanctions removal, are the two topics set to be discussed within the 60-day framework based on the Iran-US memorandum of understanding. Baqaei emphasized that negotiations on these two subjects are contingent upon the implementation of specific provisions within the memorandum.
