Foreign Minister Condemns US Blockade of Iranian Ports as Ceasefire Violation
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi emphasized that the US action to blockade Iranian ports constitutes a breach of the ceasefire.
Speaking on Tuesday night, Araqchi stated: “The blockade of Iranian ports is an act of war and therefore a violation of the ceasefire. Attacking an Iranian commercial vessel and taking its crew hostage is an even greater violation.”He asserted: “Iran knows well how to counter restrictions, how to defend its interests, and how to stand up against bullying.”On Sunday night (April 19), the US committed an act of aggression against the Iranian container vessel Toska and took its crew hostage.On Tuesday, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement warning of the highly dangerous consequences of this unlawful and criminal US action.In a Monday phone call with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Araqchi pointed to the continued unlawful and provocative US measures against Iranian ports and vessels, including the attack on the Toska and hostage-taking of its crew. He stressed that Washington’s illegal behavior and its leaders’ contradictory positions are incompatible with any claim to diplomacy.
