Iran Air Defense Destroys Numerous Israeli Kochav Drones in Recent War; Intact Hermes 900 Captured

The air defense forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran successfully destroyed a large number of the Israeli regime’s important drones, nicknamed “Kochav,” during the recent imposed war by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.
In the recent conflict, a significant portion of aerial threats consisted of advanced reconnaissance and combat drones that entered the country’s airspace for intelligence-gathering, targeting, and operational guidance missions. However, in many cases, before achieving their objectives, they were shot down by the decisive response of Iran’s air defense. One of the most significant of these drones was the “Hermes 900,” known as Kochav, which is recognized as a main pillar of the Zionist enemy’s intelligence capabilities. The Hermes 900 is one of the most advanced reconnaissance and multirole drones, designed to conduct strategic-level Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The Hermes 900 falls into the MALE (Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) drone category and possesses notable technical specifications. Its operational range is reported to exceed 1,000 kilometers—a range that can be extended further using a satellite link. The drone’s cruise speed is between 100 and 150 kilometers per hour. The Hermes 900 can loiter over an area for extended periods, continuously transmitting live intelligence and imagery to command centers. This drone is capable of carrying electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems, SAR/GMTI radars for detecting stationary and moving targets, COMINT/ELINT interception systems, and SIGINT equipment for signal analysis.
This suite of capabilities makes the Hermes 900 not merely a reconnaissance drone but a fully-fledged “intelligence node” on the battlefield, simultaneously performing data collection, processing, and transmission tasks. The operational missions and applications of the Hermes 900 go far beyond simple reconnaissance; it acts as a multi-layered intelligence-operational platform. In effect, the Hermes 900 can simultaneously serve as the “eyes, ears, and brain” of an operation, maintaining the connection throughout the detect-to-engage chain. The Hermes 900 can send precise target coordinates for airstrikes and operate alongside fighter jets and attack drones within a shared operational cycle. In this way, it plays an intermediary and facilitating role in the “detect-to-destroy” chain. In summary, the Hermes 900 is not just a reconnaissance drone but a multi-purpose intelligence-operational system that contributes to data collection, processing, transmission, and operational guidance. The air defense forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, using modern air defense systems, were able to destroy many of these advanced drones during the third imposed war.One unit of this type of drone has also been recovered intact and usable in terms of components and certain parts of its airframe by the fighters of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces.
