Iran-US Nuclear Talks Begin in Muscat with Araqchi, Witkoff Leading Delegations
Nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi and US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, have begun in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
The talks are being held indirectly, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi acting as mediator, and are taking place late Friday morning. The negotiations will focus exclusively on nuclear-related issues.Ahead of this round of talks, Araqchi met with his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi and outlined Iran’s views, proposals, demands, and considerations regarding the negotiations.During the meeting, Oman’s foreign minister praised the Islamic Republic of Iran’s good faith, sense of responsibility, and seriousness toward diplomatic processes. Referring to the determination of all regional countries to prevent any escalation of tensions, he expressed hope that this round of talks, through good faith and timely engagement by all sides, would pave the way for a sustainable understanding between Iran and the United States.Araqchi arrived in Muscat early Friday and, prior to the start of the negotiations, wrote on X that Iran is entering the path of diplomacy with open eyes and without forgetting the events of the past year. He added that Iran is engaging in good faith while firmly standing by its rights.Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for Political Affairs; Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs; and Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy for Economic Diplomacy, are members of the Iranian delegation, while Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei is accompanying Araqchi on the trip.
