Iran Unveils Nuclear-Based Cold Plasma Technology in Two Advanced Wound Treatment Centers
Two specialized centers for the treatment of chronic and diabetic wounds, using cold plasma technology based on nuclear energy, have been inaugurated in Bandar Abbas in Southern Iran.
The 10th and 11th advanced wound treatment centers employing cold plasma technology were opened at Khalij Fars Hospital and Shahid Mohammadi Hospital in Bandar Abbas, with the presence of Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. This technology generates a controlled electric field that converts harmless gases, such as air, into non-thermal plasma while maintaining a low temperature of 35–40°C to prevent tissue burns. A key feature of this nuclear-based technique is its powerful disinfecting capability.Speaking at the inauguration, Eslami highlighted the success of Iranian researchers in localizing the technology, stating, “Cold plasma is a shining example of peaceful applications of nuclear energy in the service of public health.” He added, “This non-invasive and painless technology will bring a major breakthrough in the treatment of chronic and diabetic wounds.”With the domestic development of this technology, Iran is now freed from the need to purchase expensive foreign equipment and avoids the complications of US-led sanctions.
