Iranian Court Issues Verdicts for Two “French Spies”
The Tehran Revolutionary Court has issued the initial verdicts for two French nationals accused of espionage in Iran. According to the ruling, one defendant was sentenced to 31 years in prison and convicted of “moharebeh” (waging war against God), while the other received 32 years in prison.
Iran’s Judiciary Media Center announced that one of the defendants was sentenced to six years in prison for spying on behalf of the French intelligence service, five years for collusion and assembly against national security, and 20 years in exile for intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime, which was considered an act of moharebeh.The second defendant was sentenced to 10 years in prison for spying on behalf of the French intelligence service, five years for collusion and assembly against national security, and 17 years for aiding and abetting intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime.The two French nationals, who were arrested on March 8, 2023, received their sentences from the presiding judge, and the verdicts have been formally communicated to their lawyers.Both defendants, who are employees of the French intelligence service, had access to legal counsel and were in contact with their families during the proceedings.The issued verdicts can be appealed to Iran’s Supreme Court within 20 days of notification.
