Spox: US Sanctions Against Iran Oil Minister Evidence of America's Lawlessness, Deceit
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baqaei, strongly condemned the new US sanctions imposed on several individuals, including the Minister of Petroleum of Iran, describing them as evidence of America's lawlessness and deceit.
Baqaei denounced the US action of sanctioning several individuals, including the Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as several oil tankers and commercial companies.Referring to the repeated US claim of readiness for negotiations, he called the imposition of sanctions on Iran yet another clear proof of the dishonesty of these claims and another sign of their hostility toward the development, progress, and welfare of the Iranian people.The Foreign Ministry spokesman described America's addiction to the policy of sanctions and pressure against independent nations as a violation of the rule of law at the international level and a threat to global peace and security.He emphasized the malicious actions of the US, aimed at disrupting Iran's economic and commercial exchanges with other countries, are a blatant violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law and free trade. The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the US government responsible and accountable for the consequences of such unilateral and illegitimate actions.Baqaei stressed that the US Treasury Department's decision to sanction the Iranian Minister of Petroleum is a deplorable act, contrary to all standards and principles of international law, and that such inappropriate actions cannot have the slightest impact on the Iranian nation's determination to defend Iran's independence and dignity or its efforts toward the country's development and prosperity.
On Thursday, March 13, 2025, the US Treasury Department, in line with the maximum pressure policy of US President Donald Trump and simultaneously with claims of negotiation—one day after his letter reached Tehran—placed Mohsen Paknejad, the Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on its sanctions list.
