Acting President: Iran-Russia Strategic Ties Transform Global Dynamics
Iran's Interim President Mohammad Mokhber has highlighted the transformative impact of Iran-Russia strategic relations on global power dynamics, challenging the prevailing unilateral world order.
Speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Astana on Thursday, during the 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, Mokhber emphasized the deep-rooted and strategic nature of the Iran-Russia relationship, noting its significant influence on global developments.Mokhber declared that a new chapter in Tehran-Moscow relations would benefit not only both nations but also the broader region and the world. He stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of a comprehensive bilateral cooperation agreement, particularly in economic, commercial, transportation, and energy sectors.Over recent years, Iran and Russia have strengthened their strategic bonds. Mokhber, in a recent meeting with Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of Russia's State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called for prompt action to implement the bilateral cooperation agreement and emphasized completing the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). Iran’s Acting President reaffirmed Russia's unwavering and friendly relationship with Iran, highlighting the importance of a free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).Signed in December 2023, this agreement marked a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and leveraging interactions with EAEU member countries.
Russian President referring to the shared positions of the two countries on regional and international issues, particularly in efforts to establish a multipolar world, emphasized Russia's support for Iran's proposal to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as an observer member. He also stressed the necessity of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including oil and gas, and the completion and operationalization of the joint Rasht-Astara railway project.
