Iran: Strait of Hormuz Not to Return to ‘Pre-War Situation’

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei once again stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will “under no circumstances” return to the pre-war situation.
“The Strait of Hormuz is not going to return to the situation it was in before the war [in late February 28],” Baqaei said in a televised interview on Sunday night. He also explained that under Clause 5 of the memorandum of understanding, the future management of the Strait of Hormuz was to be carried out by Iran, in consultation with Oman and through dialogue with the countries of the region.
Tehran says the existing instability and insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding area is entirely due to Washington’s violation of its commitments. An informed military source told Fars News Agency on‌ Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz is completely closed and no vessel has the right to pass through the strategic waterway without Tehran's authorization.
The agreed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz “would be neither the current Northern route nor the current Southern route, but rather a new route to be agreed upon by the two sides”, the Iranian spokesman added.
