Iran: Strait of Hormuz Closed Until "Further Notice"
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) announced Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz “will be closed until further notice", due to the heightened tensions in the strategic waterway.
“Due to the tensions created by the US aggression forces in the region and the announcement by the Iranian Armed Forces last night, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), established last month to oversee a new protocol for transits in the corridor, wrote on X.
After the US carried out fresh attacks on Iran Wednesday, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corp (IRGC) announced that the Strait of Hormuz will now be “closed to all vessels".Iran placed restrictions on the vital waterway, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass, after the US and Israel waged a war against the country in late February.Since then, Washington has been unable to break Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, despite a heavy air campaign, a naval blockade, special operations and a failed escort mission.
The authority noted Thursday that “applicants who have received a transit permit are asked to be patient and await further guidance from the PGSA".
