IRGC Navy: 28 Vessels Transit Strait of Hormuz After Obtaining Permission
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that 28 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours after obtaining permission and coordinating with Tehran.
The IRGC Navy noted Sunday that ships that were allowed through the strait over the past 24 hours included oil tankers, container ships, and other commercial vessels, adding that all of them had been cleared to pass after obtaining the required permits from the force under its security arrangements for the strategic waterway.
Iran shut down the Strait to its enemies and their allies after the US-Israeli onslaught in late February. Iranian authorities began enforcing much stricter controls following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a blockade targeting Iranian vessels and ports. The Strait of Hormuz is responsible for a fifth of the global oil supply, and Iran’s restrictions have caused a major surge in international oil and commodity prices since they were imposed in April.Early this month, Iran officially launched a new mechanism for governing maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
"Intelligent control of the Strait of Hormuz is being carried out continuously and with firmness and authority," the IRGC said in its statement.
