Parliament Speaker: Americans to Be Nostalgic for $4 Gas Soon

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the head of the Iranian delegation that held talks with the United States over the weekend in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, cautioned that Americans will soon be nostalgic for the era of $4 gasoline.
“Enjoy the current pump figures,” Qalibaf posted on X on Monday.“With the so-called ‘blockade’, Soon you’ll be nostalgic for $4–$5 gas,” he added.
He made the remarks in direct response to President Donald Trump’s order on Sunday for the US Navy to block the Strait of Hormuz—a key global shipping lane for oil and gas—after high-level peace negotiations in Islamabad failed to produce an accord. The average price of regular gasoline in the U.S. currently stands at $4.125 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association. That figure is already up more than 40 percent from pre-war levels of $2.98, and experts warn prices could climb further if the blockade disrupts global energy markets.Iran has intensified its restrictions on the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing US-Israeli war against the country. The restrictions have led to a significant rise in global energy and commodity prices.Iranian authorities have indicated that the world's vital energy lifeline, through which nearly one-fifth of global oil passed before the war, remains open to everyone except to ships tied to the US, Israel and their allies.
Qalibaf attached a screen shot of pump prices in Washington DC with the search term “gas station near White House".The parliament speaker also included a mathematical equation suggesting the price increase would be a compound, non-linear surge.
