Iran's VP: Key Demands Include War Reparations, Controlling Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s First Vice President Reza Aref stated Sunday Tehran sought Washington's recognition of its control of transit through the Strait of Hormuz in the failed negotiations between two sides in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
Writing on X on Sunday, Aref said having “authority in the Strait of Hormuz” and “pursuing compensation” for the damage caused by the U.S. and Israel’s strikes were “the rights of the (Iranian) people".
Iran and the US have failed to reach a deal after high-stakes talks in the Pakistani capital, with Vice President JD Vance noting that Tehran refused to accept Washington’s terms after 21 hours of discussions in Islamabad.Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei stressed on Sunday that no one had expected the talks with the US to reach an agreement in a single session. On Saturday, an informed source told FNA that the US has raised several excessive demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program, during the trilateral negotiations. The US and Israel waged a war on Iran on February 28 that expanded to the wider West Asia, with Tehran carrying out retaliatory military operations against the occupied territories and US military bases and assets in neighbouring Persian Gulf countries. The negotiations come after the US and Iran agreed on Wednesday to a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire following Washington’s acceptance of a 10-point proposal from Tehran.Iran has stressed that sending a delegation to Pakistan shows Tehran’s resolve to negotiate with Washington, though the country's Armed Forces' “fingers would remain on the trigger”.
“This is our firm commitment to a strong Iran,” Aref added.
