Chief Negotiator Stresses US Failure to Win Iranian Trust at Islamabad Talks

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said the Iranian delegation provided “forward-looking initiatives” during the 21-hour negotiations with the United States but the Americans could not gain Tehran’s trust.
“Before the negotiations, I emphasized that we have the necessary goodwill and determination, but due to the experiences of the two previous wars, we do not trust the other side,” Qalibaf posted on X on Sunday.“My colleagues in the Iranian delegation put forward 168 constructive, forward-looking proposals, yet the opposing side ultimately failed in this round of talks to gain the delegation’s confidence,” he stated.
The talks between Iran and the United States came to an end without reaching an accord after almost a day of discussions in Islamabad and the delegations left the Pakistani capital on Sunday. On Saturday, an informed source told FNA that the US has raised several excessive demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program, during the trilateral negotiations. The negotiations come days after the US and Iran agreed on Wednesday to a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire following Washington’s acceptance of a 10-point proposal from Tehran.Iran has stressed that sending a delegation to Pakistan shows Tehran’s resolve to negotiate with Washington, though the country's Armed Forces' “fingers would remain on the trigger”.
“America understood our logic and principles, and now it is time for it to decide whether it can gain our trust or not,” the top parliamentarian added in his post. The speaker stressed that diplomacy was “another method alongside military struggle to secure the rights of the Iranian nation, and we will never cease our efforts to consolidate the achievements of the 40-day national defense of Iranians".
