Iran Denies Talks with US
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei denied that Tehran has held negotiations with Washington, stressing that the Islamic Republic’s position on the Strait of Hormuz and conditions for ending the war have not changed.
Iran has neither had any contact with Washington since the onset of joint US-Israeli onslaught in late February, nor its position on the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for ending the imposed war has changed, Baqaei told the state news agency IRNA on Monday.
Earlier, President Donald Trump stated he has ordered the Department of War to postpone raids on Iranian power plants for five days, following what he claimed were "productive conversations" between Washington and Tehran.Trump had upped the ante over the weekend, threatening strikes on Iranian energy facilities if Tehran did not lift its threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, to which Iran responded by publishing a list of power stations and energy facilities across the Persian Gulf that it would target. The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply normally passes, has effectively been shut down since the US-Israeli aggression against Iran in late February. Hundreds of ships have reportedly remained anchored nearby, while global shipping companies and oil exporters have paused operations due to security concerns.
"Messages have been received from some friendly countries regarding the US’s request for negotiations to end the war,” the Iranian spokesperson said.Iran responded by giving warnings about “the dire consequences of any attack on Iran’s vital infrastructure”, he added.
