Iran Warns Against Consequences of US Attack on Kharg Island for World Energy Market
Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri cautioned against the consequences of a recent US military attack on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf for the global energy market.
“You once tested Iran through the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote on X on Monday. “If the intelligent control of the strait reshaped oil pricing for you, an attack on Kharg would create an even more severe and unprecedented equation for global energy rates and distribution,” he added.
President Donald Trump late Friday stated that the US had launched air raids on Kharg Island, targeting only military assets in what he called one of the “most powerful bombing raids in the History of West Asia.Tehran warned it would strike US-linked oil and energy infrastructures in West Asia if its own oil facilities are attacked, reiterating its threat in response to US bombardment of military targets on Kharg Island. The island, a 5-mile strip of land, is home to Iran’s most important oil facility, where roughly 90 percent of the country’s crude is processed.
Tangsiri also addressed the leaders of Persian Gulf states, saying “Over the years, we have repeatedly told the rulers of [Persian] Gulf nations that the United States and Western countries will not bring you security. When their interests are at stake, they will sacrifice you for their own gain.”He stated that the Persian Gulf states are now witnessing how they have been exploited for the ambitions of others, emphasizing that true reform can only come through solidarity among Islamic nations and the removal of US presence from the region.
