Iran Thanks Pakistan for Vote Against UNHRC Resolution over Violent Unrest

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi appreciated Islamabad’s support of Tehran, after the Asian country voted against an anti-Islamic Republic resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the recent unrest in Iran.
During a telephone conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday, Araqchi thanked Pakistan for its support of Iran and its position at the UN Human Rights Council, including its vote against an anti-Iran resolution. The foreign minister also conveyed his deep appreciation to the prime minister, the government, and the people of Pakistan for their support amid the recent developments in Iran.
At the end of the Friday session, the UN Human Rights Council approved what it called an “urgent investigation” into Iran’s handling of recent protests—raising questions over the timing, sponsors and selectivity of the move. The probe was authorized after the emergency session was pushed by a group of Western-backed states, even as Iran and several allies warned the process was politically driven rather than rights-based.The resolution passed with limited consensus—25 votes in favor, seven against, and 14 abstentions.
Iran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Reza Amiri-Moghaddam has also praised Pakistan’s consistent support and its adoption of a principled position in support of Tehran during the latest UN Human Rights Council session.“Pakistan’s support clearly reflects its belief in justice, human rights, multilateralism, and national sovereignty, and Iran highly values such principled stands taken without any pressure whatsoever,” the Iranian diplomat said.
