Seven Tied to West-Based Anti-Tehran Groups Captured in Iran
An informed source at Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced that seven individuals linked to hostile groups based in the United States and Europe were captured in an operation that also led to the confiscation of a large cache of smuggled weapons.
The source said that five of those identified and detained were in contact with the ringleader of US-based anti-Iran monarchists, the Mizan news agency reported on Wednesday.The source noted the arrest of two other individuals linked to counterrevolutionary outfits operating in Europe.Based on preliminary investigations, the source indicated that the mission assigned to these elements had been to push protest gatherings in the country toward violence.
Iranian security agents have in recent years nabbed several terrorist networks affiliated with the foreign-backed notorious terror group. The militants were involved in making explosives and hand-made bombs and linked to foreigners and planned to carry out counter-security acts and terror operations.
It also reported seizure of 100 smuggled handguns, adding that the weapons had been brought into the country disguised as goods carried by cross-border porters. Those involved in facilitating the smuggling operation have also been identified and arrested, the report concluded.
