Iran: Israeli Attack on Syria Violation of UN Charter

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei strongly condemned Israel’s recent air strikes on Syria, describing the raid as gross violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental norms of international law.
The Zionist regime’s attacks are a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and fundamental norms of the international law, Baqaei said in a statement on Friday.“The Zionist regime’s military attacks on Syria are a clear example of aggression against Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity which are being carried out with the purpose of destroying and weakening the Muslim country,” he added. The diplomat noted Israel’s assault in Syria exposed the “dangerous and law-breaking nature” of the regime.
Israel attacked area in the Southwestern province of Dara’a, causing “significant human and material losses”, the state news agency SANA reports. The Zionist regime has waged a campaign of aerial bombardment that has destroyed much of Syria’s military infrastructure. It has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and taken more territory in the aftermath of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s removal in December.Recently, the new rulers in Syria and Tel‌ Aviv have engaged in indirect talks to ease tensions.
The Iranian spokesman urged the international community to take immediate action to end the Israeli occupation of the Syrian territory.Israel’s supporters and its Western arm and military equipment suppliers, especially the United States, are responsible for the escalation of insecurity and instability in West Asia and the violation of international peace as the regime continues to attack regional countries, Baqaei stressed.
