Iran President Lauds Relations with‌ Azerbaijan Ahead of Visit

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian hailed the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and religious ties between Tehran and Baku, ahead of his upcoming trip to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
“The two countries are like members of a single body, and people living on both sides of the border share broad mutual interests, rooted in thousands of years of deep friendship and common affinity," President Pezeshkian said on Wednesday.He noted the deep-seated bonds linking the two nations since antiquity, stressing that the two countries enjoy great potential for bilateral collaboration despite certain misunderstandings and challenges.
Iranian officials have stated that continuation and promotion of ties between Tehran and Baku will turn the two neighbors into strategic partners.Back in May last year, the then Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the jointly-built Qiz Qalasi dam on the Aras River at the two countries’ common border.Pezeshkian has also stated that his administration will open up new foreign policy horizons in the expansion of cordial relations with other states. He emphasized that his administration will attach special importance to promoting relations with neighbors and regional countries.Iranian officials say regional issues must be solved through dialogue and interaction amongst regional countries, reiterating Tehran's principled stance on the settlement of problems without foreign interference.Azerbaijan Embassy in Tehran Resumes Work After 1.5 Year Hiatus
Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian said the potential and capacity for interaction between the two countries and their peoples is "vast, profound, and diverse". "With the ongoing process of restoring ties, we will soon witness the blossoming of these capacities and a swift and meaningful enhancement in the level of relations and cooperation,” the president added.He also expressed hope that, given the recent consultations and the preparations in place, his upcoming visit would significantly facilitate and accelerate the process of deepening relations and expanding cooperation across governmental, private, and public sectors in the fields of economy, trade, culture, tourism, and politics.
