Oman: Iran-US Negotiations Held in ‘Friendly Atmosphere’

Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi stated that the first round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington was held in a "friendly atmosphere" in Muscat on Saturday.
Following two and a half hours of indirect talks between Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi and the United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the Omani diplomat thanked the Iranian and US officials for engaging in a “process of dialogue” aimed at concluding a “fair agreement”.Writing on X, Albusaidi said the exchanges took place in a “friendly atmosphere conducive to bridging viewpoints and ultimately achieving regional and global peace, security and stability”.“We will continue to work together and put further efforts to assist in arriving at this goal,” the top diplomat added.
Witkoff headed the US delegation, while the Iranians were led by Araqchi. He was accompanied by his Deputy for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for International Affairs Kazem Qaribabadi, and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei.The Omani foreign minister acted as chief mediator, taking messages between the delegations who were sitting in separate rooms.Delegates from the Tehran and Washington have agreed to hold more talks next week after concluding indirect negotiations in the Omani capital.Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the talks as having been conducted in a “constructive atmosphere and based on mutual respect”, and said chief negotiators “spoke for several minutes in the presence of the Omani foreign minister while leaving the negotiations' venue”.Araqchi and Witkoff also spoke for a few minutes in the presence of the Omani foreign minister after the conclusion of the talks, the ministry also added.
In an interview with NBC News, Witkoff said the US and Iran had "a very positive and constructive conversation".He added the talks between the two countries will continue on April 19.
