Kremlin: Iran, Russia to Ink Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty on Friday
Russian President Vladimir Putin will host his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian this week for the signing of a “comprehensive strategic partnership” treaty between Moscow and Tehran, the Kremlin announced.
Putin and Pezeshkian will sign a comprehensive strategic partnership deal after their talks in Moscow on Friday, the Kremlin said Monday."At the end of the talks, Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian will sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran, as well as make media statements," the Kremlin said in a statement.During the talks, the two leaders are expected to discuss prospects for further expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, transport and logistics, humanitarian sectors, and beyond, it said
Since Tehran and Moscow enjoy common interests in economic, military and security affairs as well as friendly relationship, they pursue common policies on regional and international developments especially when it comes to taking stances in the face of the United States’ unilateral and interventionist strategies.The comprehensive agreement aims to enhance cooperation between Iran and Russia in various fields, reflecting the strategic partnership between the two countries.Iran and Russia have maintained a strategic partnership for many years, with collaboration spanning various fields such as energy, defense and trade.Iranian officials say Tehran’s relations with Moscow are “strategic and highly beneficial" for both countries.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters on Monday that Iran and Russia have been holding discussions regarding the strategic cooperation document for the past three to four years and finalized them during the summer.The agreement covers multiple areas, including economy, transportation, energy, healthcare and agriculture as well as cooperation in the field of common challenges such as organized crime, and terrorism and dealing with climate change, he added.The spokesperson stated the deal would also include industrial areas, joint investment, the transportation of goods by land, sea, and air as well as the transfer of experience and technical know-how.He said the agreement is an “updated” version of the one signed between the two countries about 33 years ago.Baqaei added both sides remain committed to the document but it was necessary to draw up a new agreement “with more details” given the existing circumstances.#Iran#Russia
